Whatβs Changing - Release Starting July 6, 2026
This article has been updated to reflect upcoming changes to Manual Entry. Key updates include:
Changes apply to app version 1.507 and above on the P5 terminal.

Manual Entry is used for processing transactions by keying in the card details instead of using a terminal or checking the customer out online. This is more common in industries like framing/art and service/repair. This method is considered high-risk and can incur higher interchange fees.
<aside> π‘ Note: In some cases, the Virtual Terminal in the Payment Portal may also be used to process Manual Entry transactions, however this is primarily intended if the point-of-sale (POS) goes down or is otherwise inaccessible.

Some features, Manual Entry, are available on the PayFac but may not be available to all Brands. This may be due to additional integration work that might be required and/or other factors such as customer demand, dev priorities, or more. In this case, see the table below for which brands have access to this feature as of this moment.

Whatβs New - P5 Terminal Transaction Type Toggles (Effective Jul 2026)
Starting with app version 1.507, the P5 terminal now presents two classification buttons when a manual entry payment is initiated:
Previously, all manual entry transactions were treated as MOTO by default with no classification distinction at the point of sale. The new toggles improve fraud protection and chargeback win rates by correctly categorizing each transaction type, which also determines which fields are required at checkout.
Important: The Card Present toggle (MKE) is only available on the P5 terminal. The Virtual Terminal and the embedded web component do not offer a Card Present option β all manual entry through those channels continues to be classified as MOTO.

There are generally two types of manual entry payments:
These types of orders can be a convenient method of taking payments especially in industries where itβs more standard practice such as the Framing/Art space or those selling wholesale. Sometimes these industries donβt have ecommerce websites where they sell traditional products and they canβt accept cash or check remotely, so any order that needs to be shipped usually has their payment done over the phone.
MOTO payments carry by far the highest risk of any other type of transaction, including other forms of manual entry. Since the card is not physically in front of the merchant and typically happens over the phone, it is easy for fraudsters to use stolen card information that will later get charged back.
MOTO payments are considered Card-Not-Present and can be done through the P5 terminal, the Virtual Terminal, or directly through the POS (if supported there). By default, all manual entry is considered MOTO unless specified otherwise by the merchant at the time of the transaction.
